Project Summary:
Project Abstract:
As alternatives are explored that alleviate congestion and improve mobility are sought after, transportation professionals are continuously looking towards public transportation. In doing such, transit oriented development is frequently considered as an option that benefits the transit agency, the community/residents, and local businesses. More recently, attention is being given to the impact on land values that these centers produce; however, little is known about the land values of other types of bus facilities. This study takes data compiled in two previous studies that examined land values near bus facilities in Houston, Texas and Columbus, Ohio, and offers a statistical analysis of various factors to determine the relationship between proximity to bus facilities and land values.
Project Objectives:
This project will determine the impact, if any, that freestanding bus facilities have on property values.
Task Descriptions:
Task 1: Literature review
The literature review will focus on available scientific papers, reports and websites regarding land values and transit centers.
Task 2: Gather data
This task involves gathering housing values from Harris County Appraisal District, 2000 Census, Franklin County Appraisal District and other sources. Data will be organized into various databases.
Task 3: Statistical analysis of data
During this task, data will be statistically analyzed using the best methods to determine their relevance.
Task 4: Document research results and findings
The research team will prepare the document and will note significant findings. This information will be synthesized into a final document.
